Luhut B Pandjaitan and Sandiaga Uno Witness the Launching of United in Diversity Bali Campus and Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center at Kura Kura Bali16 November 2022


Bali, 16 November 2022 – Today, collaboration between United in Diversity (UID) Bali Campus and Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center is officially launched at Kura Kura Bali, Denpasar. The collaboration is in the format of a global class learning hub which will accommodate all stakeholders to learn, build network and capacity, and create innovative solutions that will directly contributed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The launch was witnessed by Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment Republic Indonesia and Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Republic of Indonesia, Sandiaga Uno. In addition, various invitees from the government, academicians, NGOs, private sector, investor, art communities, and many others attended the event.

“UID Bali Campus vision is to become the learning hub for all stakeholders who inspire to create the best solutions to support the achievement of SDGs by including the awareness of harmonizing human, nature, and spiritual. UID will have a world class and high technology facilities, such as technology incubator, green space, and will become a smart campus,” stated Tantowi Yahya, President United in Diversity dan Executive Lead THK Forum 2022.

Despite the advanced technological facilities, UID Bali Campus will also display an art exhibition namely “Bali Abode”, which is built as the expression of our love, dedication, and enthusiasm to the Bali’s cultural journey, presented especially to our young generation. This gallery will reveal stories that transformed into dynamic graphic elements visualization combined with various artifacts, as the reminder of the glorious Balinese civilization.

“We hope this gallery can encourage our young generation to be proud of their historical background and cultural legacy, so they can continue their creation spirit,” added Tantowi.

Today’s collaboration with Tsinghua University will open the access to various learnings such as digital transformation, entrepreneurship, health, climate action, and other topics linked to the SDGs. This collaboration is the follow up of the discussion held at the Tri Hita Karana (THK) Forum 2022 which successfully bringing stakeholders in joining the Global Blended Finance Alliance (GBF).

In his opening remarks, Vice President Tsinghua University, Wang Hongwei, stated, “With the Center as an exchange platform, Tsinghua and UID have joined hands with partners from Southeast Asia and beyond in developing talent training programs, academic exchange and cooperation, and keeping our commitments to the UN SDGs, the Global Development Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, and the New Era Bali Kerthi Economic Roadmap launched by President Joko Widodo.”

Honorary President UID, Sir Gordon Duff declared, “UID Bali Campus and THK Forum warmly welcome the partnership with Tsinghua University which aged over 100 years old and one of the best universities in the world - to learn technology, economy, and research. We hope to bring the best minds around the world to share and develop ideas for a better live of people.”

During the event, there was also a signing of Letter of Intent (LoI) between the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment Republic of Indonesia, OceanX, G Forty-Two General Trading LLC (G42), and G Tech Digital Asia (GTech).

The partnership is dedicated for marine research, technology, and capacity development to support the goal of the Indonesian government for the sustainability of the oceans. This partnership will empower the marine sector by implementing best practice, knowledge and information related to marine resources.

“OceanX utilizes next-gen technology, fearless science, compelling storytelling, and immersive experiences to educate, inspire, and connect the world with the ocean and build a global community deeply engaged with understanding, enjoying, and protecting our oceans,” said Ray Dalio, Co-founder of OceanX and President of Dalio Philanthropies.

Another key launch at the event was Wealth of Ocean Alliance (WOOA), a partnership for sustainable blue economy, which includes the support for Blue Halo S on enhancing conservation area to 30% by implementing Quota Fishing policy and reducing plastic waste.

The event was ended by strengthening the Global Blended Finance Alliance (GBF) commitment that was signed during the THK Forum 2022 on the 14th Nov. The GBF has been acknowledged and included in the G20 Bali Leaders’ Declaration as the initiative to address the financing gap towards the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
