Creating Transformational Leaders for Indonesia: MOU Signing with ITB

The 21st century brings us a world that is increasingly complex and interconnected. Therefore the 21st Century leader must possess the capacities needed to create and sustain system-wide transformations in order to deal with this complexity. This begins with the ethical-spiritual transformation of the intervenor (e.g. Presiden Jokowi?s ?Revolusi Mental?), and a shift in awareness from ego-centric, silo thinking to an eco-centric way of operating from the whole.

Since its founding, UID has dedicated itself to creating such leaders through IDEAS Indonesia and various other leadership programs. However, driven by the desire to accelerate its impact in society, in 2015 UID reached out to local institutions in order to forge partnerships and collaborations. On June 18, 2015, UID signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) to signal its commitment towards the creation of Indonesia?s 21st Century leaders.

Why ITB? Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) is one of the oldest and most respected academic institutions in Indonesia, and is considered to be the best technological school in the country. Its influence in Indonesia?s history and development is indisputable, with many of its graduates occupying high level posts in all sectors of society, perhaps most notable of whom being Indonesia?s first president Soekarno. Therefore when UID decided to partner with local institutions to create more transformational leaders, ITB was a natural choice. Further, ITB rector Prof. Kadarsah Suryadi in his remarks during the MoU signing emphasized that ITB values progress through harmony, as stated in their school motto ?In Harmonia Progresio?. This alignment of belief in a common future and ecosystem awareness further cements the partnership between the two institutions.

UID and ITB are committed to collaborate to bring to reality a few joint programs in the next five years, including:
- A learning & leadership program aimed to support leaders of state-owned enterprises and the regional government of West Java.
- A trisectoral leadership program as the local/national manifestation of UID's IDEAS Indonesia program.
- A Leadership Learning Center) on ITB campus that aims to become the "Center of Excellence" for the development of Indonesia?s leadership capacities.
