Meeting with the Minister of Environment and Forestry
Environment and Forests Minister Siti Nurbaya with the Director of the United Nations - Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN-SDSN) Dr. Jeffrey D. Sachs agreed sustainable development program strengthens cooperation. This was disclosed by both parties during a meeting on Wednesday (25/3) at the VIP Room Soekarno Hatta International Airport. UN-SDSN is a worldwide organization that was established in August 2012 at the initiative of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon. This organization is a network consisting of approximately 200 people and experienced experts with academic backgrounds, NGOs, the private sector and decision makers in the various dimensions of sustainable development.

Siti Nurbaya reveal sustainable development is a must to be implemented, including in Indonesia so that natural resources can be managed optimally with maintaining continuity so as not compromising the needs of future generations. If managed properly and fairly, nature will provide welfare for all parties. Meanwhile, Dr. Jeffrey Sachs said that all parties should be encouraged to get involved in managing resources well so as not to destroy it for future generations. Development programs should use a holistic approach, combining economic approach, social, environmental and political. Sustainable development aims to solve global problems such as climate change, environmental, economic and social basis together with good governance.

Cooperation with UN-LHK Ministry SDSN began last year with a workshop on Partnership for Solutions: Priorities and Pathways for Sustainable Energy and the Deep De-carbonization on 26-27 November 2014 and held UID-SDSN Solutions Award for Social Organization Society (NGOs) working in the field of sustainable development. This workshop involves the participation of the Minister of Finance, the Governor of Jakarta, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Transportation, PLN, Member of UN-SDSN Leadership Council, academics, experts, scientists, and CEO of a number of global companies. The workshop produced a number of recommendations generated each working group such as transport, energy, tourism, urban and energy access for small islands or isolated areas. The results of this workshop was followed by a number of such meetings held workshops on environment and forestry development in line with poverty reduction.

To fulfill the commitment of Indonesia to lower levels of carbonization (CO2) to 26% in 2020, the workshop recommended the use of environmentally friendly energy sources and energy management at various levels ranging from the transport sector, industry, buildings, until the household. Indonesia has an opportunity to reduce CO2 emissions through the arrangement of energy sources in urban and small islands as well as the application of standards for buildings through a certification system. For those who can reach certain standards will be given incentives, while that can not reach the minimum standards imposed sanctions. For remote islands and islets, the government encouraged the establishment of power plants with renewable energy sources or environmentally friendly in accordance with the conditions of each region.
