SDSN SEA & Indonesia Sustainable Development Goals

United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN)
As part of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's initiatives to promote sustainable development, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) was launched in 2012 to mobilize global scientific and technological knowledge on the challenges of sustainable development, including the design and implementation of the post-2015 global sustainable development agenda.

"The post-2015 process is a chance for the global community to work towards a new era in sustainable development.

The latest report from the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, the result of a collaboration between top scientists, technologists, businesses, and development specialists, is a critical input to the work we are doing to shape an ambitious and achievable post-2015 agenda."

-Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon-

SDSN South East Asia
Emerging economies in ASEAN are experiencing unprecedented growth. SDSN sees responsible development as crucial for the continued improvement of the region in a way that minimizes negative impact on the environment, generates employment and inclusive growth, and helps to eradicate poverty.

SDSN-SEA will focus on learning and creativity as key means of expounding and promulgating sustainable development practices and solutions advocated by SDSN, and identify worthy projects for collaboration within ASEAN. SDSN networks around the world are seen as a platform to promote and share sustainable development solutions that can be put into practice.

SDSN-SEA will be physically housed under United in Diversity Creative Campus being established in Kura Kura Bali - an island project by PT Bali Turtle Island Development and an initiative envisioned together with the former Minister of Indonesia Mari Pangestu. SDSN-SEA is co-chaired by Cherie Nursalim in Indonesia, they are both on the leadership council of SDSN.

SDSN-SEA and Indonesia was launched by the then President of the Republic of Indonesia, Co-Chair UN High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons on post 2015 Development agenda, Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono with Prof Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute of Columbia University and Special Consultant of UN Director-General Ban Ki-moon, and the then Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia, Marie Pangestu.

SDSN Indonesia
Each country and region faces a unique set of challenges in achieving sustainable development. The establishment of SDSN Indonesia will allow members to focus on specific challenges and the solutions and strategies that will help propel Indonesia towards its sustainability goals.

SDSN Indonesia is currently chaired by Dr. Jatna Supriatna of the Research Center for Climate Change at the University of Indonesia jointly with United in Diversity foundation (Upaya Indonesia Damai).
