Hello everyone!!

Gina, thank you for your heartfelt message. I just wanted to write to all of you and thank you for hosting us in your offices, in your country and in your hearts. You were all such gracious hosts, and made us feel right at home – as if we were visiting family.

I hope that we were able to do our small part in the wonderful, grand program that you are starting. I know that I personally enjoyed myself very much. I wish you all the best of luck with Ideas Indonesia and with the new year.

Frans, I look forward to seeing you in May. Rick and I will host you, Tommy and Andin along with the rest of the G-lab team and their significant others when you come – it’ll be nice to catch up. If any of you are in the states, I’d love to see you as well!

Thanks again!!

Ila Shukla,
MIT Glab team intern at UID for Ideas Indonesia – UID Education Academy program.

Colors of Rainbow

When I received the proposition from Gina to write about diversity, I was very surprised and flattered. Before she offered, the idea of writing for an internet published article never occurred to me. Few weeks have passed; I almost went to pieces as I haven't got any clue on what to write.
Then one afternoon during my Christmas holiday; I caught the sight of a beautiful image appeared in the sky after heavy raining in my hometown. The great bow of color captured my attention, and I noticed the difference of each color is slightly imperceptible yet still visible.

Dear friends,

We had a wonderful event yesterday night in Monaco, assembling donors and partners of Operation Monaco Solidarité Asie. we showed a composite videoclip, pictures, drawings etc, and gave reports and speeches. The letter from Jim Wolfensohn was quite timely, many thanks for having sent it on to us. All this provides further encouragement for everybody to forge ahead of the project, hand in hand with our friends in Indonesia

MBA student helps tsunami-ravaged businesses rebound

Nathalie Butcher, a student in the MBA class of 2006, spent her summer vacation amid palm trees and ocean breezes, but not stretched out on the beach with a paperback novel. Based in Jakarta, Butcher was working for the Indonesian NGO United in Diversity helping tsunami victims to rebuild established businesses and launch new ones.

During the first half of the summer, Butcher met with government and business officials to formulate relief plans for the most devastated areas of Indonesia. "Proposals often come in either handwritten or by phone. They have no supporting data. They just need help," she says. "The problem is that donors want to know where their money is going, but often victims don't have the information, don't know how to provide it."

Tsunami Aid: It's Time to Deliver
By Thang D. Nguyen
For The Straits Times

While promises are easy to make, they are easy to break, too. This has happened before. After the earthquake that killed 25,000 people and flattened the ancient city of Bam in Iran - which, coincidentally occurred on Boxing Day of 2003 - the international community pledged US$1 billion to Iran. Yet it is estimated that the amount of aid that has actually been delivered to Bam stands somewhere between US$17 million and US$115 million.
