It is indeed a pleasure to be here with you all this afternoon, and thank you so much for your hospitality and for the opportunities given to me to give a remark. | I speak for most of the people in Monaco, who have this feeling in this project. We felt very proud and extremely thankful to United in Diversity, DCAB, Zero to One foundation and every body who is involved in this project. | I think it is an illustration of how well people with different ideas who are willing to help and trying to respond to this unspeakable tragedy. How some people, who went through it can make this a united and cohesive project from their ideas. And it works! |

Dr.Ch.Engr;MBA (Harvard) President, Compagnie d'Investissements Monaco-Asie S.a.m. (CODIMA) What gave us a lot of confidence in going to this project? Because we saw the response from your [Indonesian] side that was very professional and systematic. This made us feel that we have somebody on the other side that really can respond to the needs of this project in very concrete ways to make it worth the investment of our time and resources. | We've been very impressed with your team. I can say that everybody among Monaco's NGOs has never seen something that is done so systematically, professionally and precisely.

JAMES D. WOLFENSOHN
President The World Bank at the Embassy of Indonesia, Washington D.C., July 2003 | “... there is clearly a need to build trust and confidence in the society and cohesion in the society, and that is why the conference on ‘United in Diversity’ is so important... It is bringing together government, civil society and the private sector in a coordinated approach to the development of the country, of the sharing of values, the sharing of objectives, in a way that old contradictions and competitiveness between civil society, private sector, and government did not allow”

PROFESSOR RICHARD SCHMALENSEE, Dean PROFESSOR LESTER THUROW, Dean Emeritus ALAN WHITE, Senior Associate Dean
MIT Sloan School of Management, April 2003 “The United in Diversity Forum is an important step in the consideration of positive steps in rebuilding the economic potential of Indonesia. | Further, we feel that the international community can and must offer meaningful resources to jointly make Indonesia’s economic rebirth a reality. | We, at MIT Sloan School, are strongly behind this Forum as a way to make a statement about the critical role of the private sector in Indonesia, to foster cooperation among diverse interests, and particularly to initiate a learning process which we hope will benefit all interests in building the potential of Indonesia.” |

Kim Samuel-Johnson
United in Diversity Donor Director, Corporate Giving Programmes Samuel Group of Companies, Canada | Where I think I can help [United in Diversity] is by explaining to other potential donors (corporate and foundations) why we supported UID, and took the decision to give directly to local NGOs, with no disrespect intended to the important role of the multi-lateral institutions. I just really believe, as I know you do, that the long-term changes really need to be taken at the ground level by people whose history and culture is of that country and who have the knowledge and means to ensure sustainable change. So much of this I have learned from my work with Synergos over the years, where I have come to understand first-hand the importance of empowering CSROs "Civil Society Resource Organizations." |

An exceprt by David on the United in Diversity Forum | | “During a recent visit to Indonesia we had the opportunity to meet with some of the nonprofit organizations that participated in the United in Diversity Conference. It was inspiring to meet creative and committed individuals who in different fields of endeavor are working to make a difference in the fields of social development and cultural development. It underlined for us the critical role civil society organizations play and the need for them to be supported.” |

THANG D. NGUYEN
Editor, Indonesia Matters: Diversity, Unity, and Stability in Fragile Times “While diversity is a national asset, it can also be tumed into a liability when socio-economic conditions are just not enough to allow for trust to bud and harmony to materialize. What is needed now is a multi-stake holder platform on which Indonesians and friends from abroad who are leaders in business, government, media, and civil society can not only address Indonesia’s most challenging issues but also forge partnerships that can make Indonesia a more stable, progressive, and just place. That platform is none other than UID (United in Diversity)” |
