UID - MAS - DCAB Goodwill-signing Luncheon with H.S.H Prince Albert
II of Monaco
On Thursday, 7 July 2005, the United in Diversity Forum (UID) and its partners had the honor to receive H.S.H. Prince Albert of Monaco in Singapore.
Accompanied by Mr. Francesco Bongiovanni, President of the Monaco-Asia Society, Ms. Jacky Deromedi, the honorary consul in Singapore,
Minister Rainier Imperti and Colonel Thierry Jouan. His Highness was shown a presentation of a post-tsunami reconstruction project that UID has been working with its partners, namely Delasiga Cinta Anak Bangsa
represented by Jonathan Chang and Zero to One foundations founder Geoffrey E. Thwaites
in Nias, north Sumatra, Indonesia.
Designed as an integrated community-building effort and made possible with the generosity from the Monaco-Asia Society, this project includes building homes, boats, schools, clinics and public facilities for the people in Nias, who suffered the Asian tsunami in December 2004 and earthquakes in March 2005.
Following the presentation of the project, His Highness and guests from Monaco were joined by UID's co-founder, Mr. Aristides Kattopo, its executive and program directors and friends at an Indonesian lunch that
was hosted by Dr. Enki Tan, his wife, Ms. Cherie Nursalim, and family.

During the lunch, His Highness was invited to cut the yellow rice (nasi tumpeng), an Indonesian tradition during thanksgiving ceremonies. Following the lunch,
Ms. Nursalim made her welcoming remarks (text enclosed) to His Highness and guests and read the words in a plaque that was later presented to His Highness as a token of appreciation from UID, its partners, and the people of Nias for the kindness that Monaco has shown them in their time of need.
His Highness delivered a moving speech in which thanked UID and others who have made the project a mission possible and shared with the guests the empathy that the people of Monaco have for the people of Nias in the latter's hours of difficulty.
President of Monaco-Asia Foundation, Mr. Bongiovanni then gave his insightful comments on how the project came about, the urgent call that Monaco felt to send a helping hand to Nias and how the teamwork on both Indonesia's and Monaco's sides has made it happen.
As a part of the event, three representatives from UID, the Monaco-Asia Society and Delasiga Cinta Anak Bangsa signed a goodwill memorandum that show an understanding of solidarity among them through this project. The signing of the document was by the founding members of UID and witnessed by His Highness and Ms. Nursalim.
Before the luncheon ended, His Highness and all the guests present received a token of appreciation from the host of the event.
His Highness extended his greetings to all the guests present and took some photos with them before his departure.
