United in Diversity has forged new collaboration among diverse leaders and
sectors in Indonesia who are committed to promoting tolerance and economic
growth. Now in the aftermath of the deadly earthquake and brutal Tsunami,
our country is confronting its most serious challenge.

We are rising to it!
Just as we have been united in diversity, we must now be united in adversity.

The outpouring of global support is heartening, but ultimately we as
Indonesians must implement coordinated strategies for relief and plan our
future and reconstruction. Our government has an important role to play,
but it cannot do it alone.
All of us must find a way of contributing to Indonesians who are leading relief efforts.


The United in Diversity (UID) Forum is proud to present ideas indonesia (Innovative Dynamic Education and Action for Sustainability) Indonesia as a way to help Indonesia confront its challenges more effectively.

This is a high-powered student innovation and enterprise (I & E) competition, which involves Internet technology and global competitors. The Global Enterprise Challenge (GEC) is a 24-hour international challenge in which competing student teams from around the world are set a challenge to produce a prototype and a business plan for a commercially viable product or service to meet an objective set by NASA and Careers Scotland.

	UID has received a Thank You Note from the President of Republic of Indonesia representing the country for our contribution and involvement in Aceh-Nias reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts. For a young foundation like us, this is something that we all can be proud of; not only to the recognition but to the acknowledgement of our efforts and works.

239 Solar Panel Installation Project in Sirombu Village, Nias Island.
	In May 2007 all the solar panel works have all been completed and everyone in the village has no more darkness-night when the state owned electricity supplier was not available.


UID held workshop on its leadership education program
	In coordination with its partners and assistance from a group of students from the MIT Sloan School of Management, the United in Diversity Forum (UID) launched its first workshop on leadership education on 1 February.

Dear friends,
Our brothers and sisters in Mandailing Natal district in North Sumatra province and Aceh are currently facing a difficult situation due to the landslides, floods and earthquake which happened recently and still happening now. It is so unfortunate that the calamity happened at the same time of the year when the Tsunami hit the area two years ago. While we are feasting during this festive season, they are desperately in needs of food, milk, water, clothes, blankets, medicines and temporary shelters (tents).

Monaco's Prince Inaugurated Homes and School for Tsunami-affected Families
	On Sunday, 3 December, H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco paid a visit to Sirombu village, Nias Island, Indonesia. Accompanied by a delegation from the Monaco-Asia Society, Prince Albert inaugurated 239 homes and one school that had been built for Tsunami victims and families in Sirombu.


Deutsche Bank Indonesia Funds Solar-Energy Project in Nias!
	We're pleased to announce that our solar-energy project in Nias has been financed by Deutsche Bank Indonesia. Working with Sunlabob, a Laos-based solar-energy specialist, as our partner, we aim to install solar panels in all the 239 homes that we have built for tsunami victims and their families in Sirombu, Nias. Since many of them have lost their jobs and are unemployed, or underemployed, following the tsunami and sequential earthquakes, the solar-energy project will provide them with free electricity and, thereby relieve them of a financial burden as they rebuild their lives. We are grateful to Deutsche Bank Indonesia for its generosity.

We are united in adversity, again!
	Less than two years after the Asian tsunami, Indonesia was hit once again by a natural catastrophe. On 27 May, a 5.9-magnitude earthquake shook the city of Yogyakarta, central Java, and other nearby areas. Thus far, the quake has taken more than 6,000 lives and leaves thousands injured and homeless.


Wellspring International - Food Aid project in Nias
	It's been our pleasure and honor to be chosen by Wellspring International as its local partner for this humanitarian project. Together, UID and its key partner YCAB are proud to have coordinated a distribution of 1,300 food-aid packages as a response post-Tsunami 26 December 2004 and the earthquake of 28 March 2005 in Nias. The food-aid packages were distributed in 18 villages all over Nias and Hinako islands, northern Sumatra, Indonesia, and made possible by the generosity of Wellspring International.


Global Classroom Seminar 2006
	Organized by the United in Diversity Forum (UID), Indonesia, in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Sloan School of Management and World Bank Institute, this seminar is designed for graduate students from selective universities in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. The seminar is aimed at "Exploring the Links Between International Business and Poverty Reduction: A Case Study of Unilever in Indonesia"

UID Welcomes Its New President in the US!
	Jane Pratt has recently joined the United in Diversity Forum (UID, www.unitedindiversity.org) as its President in the US. In this capacity, Dr. Jane Pratt is spearheading the efforts of concerned Americans to support UID in creating and implementing actions that help forge a new, positive national identity for Indonesia, based on the multiple strengths of its diverse people.


University For A Night, New York, 2 Nov 2005,
	United in Diversity Forum would never be if not for the strong support of former President of the World Bank James Wolfensohn's from the founding stages. Tonight, at University for a Night organized by Synergos Institute in New York City, David Rockefeller presented David Rockefeller Bridging Leadership Award to James Wolfensohn.


MBA student helps tsunami-ravaged businesses rebound,
	Nathalie Butcher, a student in the MBA class of 2006, spent her summer vacation amid palm trees and ocean breezes, but not stretched out on the beach with a paperback novel. Based in Jakarta, Butcher was working for the Indonesian NGO United in Diversity helping tsunami victims to rebuild established businesses and launch new ones.


UID - MAS - DCAB Goodwill-signing Luncheon with H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco,
	Accompanied by Mr. Francesco Bongiovanni, representative of the Monaco-Asia Society, and Ms. Jacky Deromedi, the honorary consul in Singapore, and a few other guests from Monaco, His Highness was shown a presentation of a post-stunami reconstruction project that UID has been working with its partners, namely Delasiga Cinta Anak Bangsa and Zero to One foundations in Nias, north Sumatra, Indonesia.


Nias Earthquake
	A major earthquake struck off the west coast of Indonesia, killing about 600 people on Indonesia's Nias Island, but the Indonesian government estimates that the total figure could reach 2,000.


Disaster Response Help survivors and their families by making monetary donations
	We wish to channel support to some of courageous committees, friends and partners of UID on the ground already into action. They range from emergency medical and logistics support to reach into the remote regions of Aceh and Nias to medium term reconstruction and education effort to rebuild the shattered communities uniting diverse sectors of business, government and civil society in Indonesia.
